Many Kindergarten students are experiencing formal art instruction for the very first time. We start at the very beginning. The first nine weeks are spent learning about proper art room conduct and basic drawing skills. Our focus is on using different types of lines, shapes and color in art. Students will be directed to create art about themselves, their family and their immediate environment. These activities help the student develop fine motor skills along with language and social skills.

We are learning about how artists use different types of lines in art, how to use lines to draw shapes and putting different kinds of shapes together to draw animals. These lessons help student make connections between art and others subjects such as math (lines and Shapes), science (animals) and art. Teir drawing skill will improve as they begin to recognize shapes and lines as parts of a whole artwork.
Currently, our Kindergarten classes are continuing to learn about 3-D art by working with air dryed clay to create a pinched pot. After this project is complete we will return to 2-D art to create a design for our PTA and Art Room fund raiser project. Look for more information about this exciting activity to come home soon.
