Fourth grade students are studying the art of North Carolina. They will be creating art that uses North Carolina as the subject and will study the work of North Carolina artists also. Our first art project is a watercolor painting of the mountains. Then we will travel to the coast of North Carolina to study the markings of our lighthouses. We also used natural resources to make riendeer ornaments from pine cones to decorate the Franklin County Arts Council holiday tree.
Currently we are learning about the art of North Carolina born artist, Romare Bearden. Students will create an original collage artwork for this lesson.
Our next lesson will be about the symbols of North Carolina. Students will select one of North Carolina's state symbols and create an original artwork with that symbol as the subject. This project will be used to support our new PTA / Art Class room fundraiser. More information will be coming home about this activity.
