Fifth grade students will focus on the art of the Americas. We will begin with Native American Art. Our first project will be creating an orginal parfleche design followed by telling a pictograph story using traditional Native American symbols. Next we will explore the functional arts and crafts of Colonial Americans. We will learn about the work of artist and scientist John James Audubon and move into the landscapes of the American Romanticism Movement.
Next we will analyze the effect of geographic location and physical environment on the media and subject matter of North American art and artists as we move westward to study the art of Frederic Remington and compare it to the art of Georgia O'Keefe. Students will choose one of these artists to complete an original artwork inspired by that artist. The artwork for this project will be used to support our new PTA / Art class room fundraiser. More information will be coming home about this activity.
